Geography

At Catton Grove Primary School we are Geographers! We want our children to aspire to be the next explorers, conservationists, meteorologists or sustainability consultants. We ensure that we have equipped them with the skills, concepts, knowledge and determination to do so! We want them to embody our core values and we ensure we bring geography alive through our carefully crafted and ambitious curriculum. We want our children to be fascinated with every aspect of Geography and to be equipped with the geographical knowledge to understand the importance this subject has on their everyday lives.

By immersing our pupils into every aspect of their geography learning journey through hands-on and engaging experiences, pupils are provoked into thinking and raising questions about the world around them. Through exploration and research pupils discover answers to their own questions.

We at CGPS provide opportunities for pupils that are normally out of reach by offering memorable and unforgettable experiences such as the opportunity to develop their geographical skills through carrying out purposeful field studies both within the locality of Catton Grove, Norwich and Norfolk. This helps them to understand their place within the world and the impact they as individuals can have.

CGPS is passionate that when pupils leave in Year 6 that they are equipped with the geographical understanding of how to be respectable and responsible citizens and how they can make improvements within their environment. We want our pupils to have a relevant knowledge of sustainability and climate change and how their actions and interactions have an impact locally, nationally and globally.

Our curriculum is inclusive and reflects the ever changing world we live in. Adaptations and additional support (such as the use of technology) is used to support the diverse range of needs of pupils at CGPS and we ensure that we offer equal opportunities for all pupils to thrive and become
Geographers.
