History

History is the foundation of all of society across the world; this is something we are passionate and fascinated
with across our school. We want to be Historians, we want to ask questions, we want to learn about our past. Our Curriculum is well sequenced to provide children with the key concepts which run through History from
Early Years all the way through to Year 6.

At Catton Grove, we believe that by the time our children leave us in Year 6, we have ignited their curiosity and passion for historical thinking and they have developed into Historians. We want them to be curious and engaged with the past, present and future in our ever changing world. We expect them to understand how our History is linked together, what sources we use to learn about the past, have a strong understanding of chronology, understand continuity, change, cause and consequence. We want to enable them to use their own critical thinking skills by asking questions which inspire. The children at our school will be fascinated by
the past and how it shaped and shapes the future.

Catton Grove believes that children should have quality experiences of History to deepen and strengthen their fascination and questioning of the past. In Norfolk, we have an incredible opportunity to deepen the childrens knowledge and understanding of History by providing opportunities to make links with the past by providing visits to many historical landmarks around East Anglia. Our aim at Catton is to give our children a richness of knowledge which includes not only the local area, but also the people and places which have transformed History across time. We want our children to understand the significance and impact of what happened in our
past and why it happened.

Our school community believes every child should be given the opportunities to develop and learn no matter what their individual needs, interests or background is. We understand how individual our children are and the importance of teaching which ensures they can access and talk about their learning. We will ensure that every child is provided with the teaching and resources which they can use to help build on previous knowledge and develop new knowledge. We believe in the importance of sharing and working together as a
school, class, team and even in a partnership

Through History, we want to embed our core values and ensure children can carry those values through their exploration, questioning and curiosity of the past. We want children to embrace our diverse History and
heritage from ancient civilisations, to the more modern times such as the Victorians.
